JOB NATURE COMPLETE SURGICAL STRIKE.

1. Commercial_Apprentice (CA)
Commercial Apprentices are trained to be multi-skilled supervisors in the Commercial branch of the Indian Railways. The job profile for two years will be that of an apprentice. They are trained for a period of two years in the posts of Chief Commercial/ Parcel/ Goods Clerk or Commercial/ Claims/ Rates Inspectors.
If you rise to be a Commercial Inspector after training, you will be entrusted the following non-exhaustive list of functions:
→Keep check on standards of cleanliness and orderliness in the station.
→Keep check on commercial staff.
→Keep check on the rules surrounding booking, handling, despatch, storage, delivery of items.
→Keep check on handling of consignments.
→Keep check on revenues, outstanding, revenue leakage and other money matters related to the station.
→Examine and analyse causes of diversion of traffic, if any, to other means of transport.
→Ideate methods of improvement in the working of the station.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
→You need to be on your toes.
→You won’t be handling a team.
→Travelling might be required as part of the job.
→Work from home option is not available.
→Part time work and contractual jobs are not available in some cities.
→Working hours are 9/10 hours everyday for 5/6 days a week.

2. Traffic Apprentice (TA)
Traffic Apprentices are trained to be multi skilled supervisors in the Transportation (Operations) branch of the Indian Railways. The job profile for two years will be that of an apprentice. They are trained for a period of two years in the posts of Station Master/ Guard/ Section Controller/ Yard Masters/ Traffic Inspectors.
If you rise to be a Traffic Inspector after training, you will be entrusted the following non-exhaustive list of functions:
→Inspect activities of stations under your jurisdiction to ensure compliance of all traffic and operative rules.
→Keep check on staff to maintain attendance and efficiency.
→Keep check on records of trains to see if they operate on schedule.
→Inspect condition of station building, platform, drinking water, refreshment facilities, and other public conveniences.
→Check crossing gates, goods shed, parcel office for safety regulation compliance.
→Conduct night inspections of signals and ensure light arrangements are adequate.
→Make surprise inspections by travelling in passenger or goods trains to check compliance with traffic rules.
→Accompany important passengers in train to ensure all facilities and courtesies are provided to them.
→Resolve public complaints and investigate minor accidents, theft of goods, delays etc.

3. Enquiry_Cum_Reservation_Clerk (ECRC)
Enquiry Cum Reservation Clerk are required to be trained for three months. The job is to issue computerized reserved tickets for railway passengers and to respond to enquiries regarding issue of the same or to help passengers plan their travel.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
→The job is indoor and in most places, in air-conditioned offices.
→It is probably one of the best available posts for ladies in Indian Railways.
→Travelling is not required as part of the job.
→Work from home option is not available.
→In most stations, ECRC works in two shifts on alternate days – from 8-14 hours and 14-22 hours. In some small stations, where the earnings are less, only one person works in one shift and the timings are adjusted suitably as per local conditions.
→The job is suitable for candidates with One Arm (OA), One Leg (OL) and  Low Vision (LV).
SALARY_STRUCTURE:
Pay Scale: 5200-20200, GP 2800

4. Goods Guard (GG)
A Guard is in charge of a running train. A Goods Guard is in charge of a goods train. The duties of a guard include:
→Getting vehicle guidance (VG – written document with details of goods train and summary of goods contained) from Station Master/Yard Master.
→Checking all the information for anything that could endanger the safe running of trains.
→Checking that the doors of wagons are closed.
→Checking the brake continuity with Loco Pilot.
→Signing the Brake Power Certificate (BPC) after ensuring sufficient brake power.
→Constantly monitoring the formation of any abnormalities on the run.
→Preparing train reports like Combined Train Reports, Late Arrival Reports, etc.
→Attending along with LP/ALP minor troubles experienced on the run like brake binding etc.
WORK_ENVIRONMENT:
→The job is considered strenuous in nature as you have to stay in your brake van during the entire run where no basic facilities are given. →The situation is now slightly improved with running of 8-wheeler brake van.
→Brake vans are not lit during the night and the train may wait in way side stations for long hours sometimes for crossing/precedence of Express trains.
→The strenuous nature of the job is compensated by allowances of which the important one is Running Allowance which is based on the monthly kilometres on the run.
→Travelling is integral to the job.
→The job is #not at all suited to #women.
→The job is suitable for candidates with #One_Arm (OA).

5. ASSISTANT_STATION_MASTER (ASM)
An Assistant Station Master (ASM) is in the charge of running of trains at a station. He/ She operates the signals, ensures that everything goes as per the rules laid out. An Station Master (ASM) has to work in shifts. Generally each station has one SM, though bigger stations may have more than one Station Master.
Shift : Yes. An ASM has to work in shifts.
No of ASM at one station: Generally each station has one ASM, though bigger stations may have more than one ASM.
Career path: As an ASM you will have the following career path
→Assistant Station Master
→Station Master
→Station Supt.
→Assistant Operations Manager.
→Divisional Operations Manager.
