SSC CHSL

SSC CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary, 10+2) is the exam for 12th-pass candidates. The 2026 notice fills Lower Divisional Clerk / Junior Secretariat Assistant posts and Data Entry Operators in central government offices.

01 / Eligibility

  • Education: 12th standard or equivalent from a recognised board or university. Candidates still awaiting 12th results can apply but must hold the qualification by 07-10-2026.
  • For Data Entry Operator posts in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, the Staff Selection Commission and the Ministry of Culture: 12th pass in the Science stream with Mathematics.
  • Age: 18 to 27 years as on 01-08-2026 (born between 02-08-1999 and 01-08-2008). Upper age relaxation applies to SC/ST, OBC, persons with disabilities, ex-servicemen and others under Government of India rules.

Application fee in the notice: ₹100. Women candidates and SC, ST, PwBD and eligible ex-servicemen candidates pay no fee.

All Tier-I qualifiers are called for Tier-II, and you must qualify in every section. The merit list uses the aggregate of Tier-II Section I and Section II, after you qualify in Section III and the skill or typing test.

03 / Exam pattern

Tier-I: 100 multiple-choice questions, 200 marks, 60 minutes, with a 15-minute sectional timer for each part. Each wrong answer loses 0.50 mark.

Session-II is the Skill Test for Data Entry Operators (15 minutes) or the Typing Test for LDC/JSA (10 minutes). These are qualifying.

Who can apply for CHSL?

12th-pass candidates aged 18 to 27 on 01-08-2026. Some Data Entry Operator posts need Science with Mathematics at 12th.

Which posts does the 2026 notice cover?

Lower Divisional Clerk / Junior Secretariat Assistant and Data Entry Operator / DEO Grade A posts.

Is there a typing test?

Yes. LDC/JSA candidates take a 10-minute typing test, and DEO candidates take a 15-minute skill test. Both are qualifying.

Is there negative marking?

Yes: 0.50 mark per wrong answer in Tier-I and 1 mark per wrong answer in Sections I to III of Tier-II.
