RRB Technician fills skilled technical posts across Railway departments and trades. There are two broad levels: Technician Grade-I Signal (degree or diploma level) and Technician Grade-III (ITI level, many trades).

01 / Posts and qualification

Technician Grade-I Signal: relevant B.Sc (Physics, Electronics, Computer Science, IT, Instrumentation or specified combinations), or a three-year engineering diploma or engineering degree. Medical standard B-1.

Technician Grade-III: many trade-specific posts such as Track Machine, Blacksmith, Bridge, Carriage & Wagon, Diesel Electrical, Diesel Mechanical, Electrical/TRS, Electrical General Services, Fitter, Machinist, Mechanical Workshop, Millwright, Painter and Welder. Generally Matriculation plus the relevant ITI or Act Apprenticeship; the accepted trade depends on the post.

03 / Exam pattern

100 questions in 90 minutes with 1/3 negative marking. The marks decide shortlisting for the next stages.

The subjects include General Awareness and General Intelligence and Reasoning, plus basic science, mathematics and technical topics as prescribed for the grade. Read the exact list in the latest notice.

What is an RRB Technician?

A skilled technical post in a Railway department or trade, in Grade-I Signal or Grade-III.

What is the difference between Grade-I Signal and Grade-III?

They differ in pay level (Level-5 and Level-2), qualification, age limit and job profile.

Can ITI students apply?

Yes, for the Technician posts whose list includes their exact ITI trade.

Is a diploma enough?

For Grade-I Signal, a three-year engineering diploma is accepted. For Grade-III it depends on the post.

What is the difference between JE and Technician?

JE is a supervisory engineering post at Level-6. Technician posts are skilled technical posts at Level-2 and Level-5.
