IBPS Clerk

IBPS Clerk is now the recruitment of Customer Service Associates (CSA) in the participating public sector banks. It is a two-tier online exam, with no interview, followed by a Local Language Proficiency Test.

01 / Eligibility

  • Education: a degree (graduation) in any discipline from a recognised university, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Central Government. You must hold a valid mark-sheet or degree certificate on the day you register.
  • Age: minimum 20, maximum 28 years as on 01-08-2026, with relaxations for reserved categories as set out in the notification.
  • Computer literacy is mandatory: a certificate, diploma or degree in computer operations or language, or computers / IT studied as a subject in school or college.
  • Local language: you apply for one State/UT and must be proficient in reading, writing, speaking and understanding its specified local language. If you hold a 10th or higher mark-sheet showing you studied that language, you do not need the language test.

There is no interview. The Local Language Proficiency Test is held after you qualify in the Main, before joining the bank.

Wrong answers cost 1/4 of the marks of the question. You must secure the minimum cut-off in each test of the Preliminary.

Questions students ask

Is there an interview for IBPS Clerk?

No. Selection is based on the two online exams, then the Local Language Proficiency Test.

Do I need a computer certificate?

You need operating and working knowledge of computers, shown by a certificate, diploma or degree, or by having studied computers or IT as a subject at school or college.

Can I apply to any state?

You apply to a State or UT and must know its specified local language. Anyone with a 10th or higher certificate showing they studied that language is exempt from the language test.

Is there negative marking?

Yes, one fourth of the marks of the question for each wrong answer.

2. Educational Qualifications

  • A degree (Graduation) in any discipline from a University recognized by Govt. of India, or any equivalent qualification.
  • The candidate should have valid marks sheet.
  • Computer Literacy: Operating and working knowledge in computer Systems are mandatory. You should have a Certificate/ Diploma/ Degree in Computer Operations/ Language or should have studied Computer/ Information Technology as one of the subjects in High School/ College/ Institute.
  • Proficiency in the Official Language of the State/ UT is preferable. You should be able to read, write and speak it.

Note: All results must be declared on or before 3rd October 2017.

3. Nationality/ Citizenship

You must be either –

(a) a Citizen of India or
(b) a Subject of Nepal or Bhutan or
(c) a Tibetan Refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India.
(d) a Person of Indian Origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, with the intention of permanently settling in India.

IBPS Clerk Prelims paper contains only three papers Reasoning, Quantitative and English Language with time duration of 01 hours. Those candidates who clear it will qualify and promoted for mains exam.

IBPS Clerk Mains Exam Pattern

Basically Common written exam  (CWE) for Clerical cadre have 190 Objective type questions this IBPS Clerks CWE (IBPS Clerk Syllabus) Contains five sections Reasoning, English Language, Numerical Ability Test, General Awareness Test & Computer Knowledge.

Both Sections has different marks with separates time duration of total 160 Minutes, and Negative marking is also applicable with an effect of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer.
