IBPS PO

IBPS PO is the Common Recruitment Process for Probationary Officers and Management Trainees in the participating public sector banks. It is a three-stage test: an online Preliminary, an online Main, then a Personality Test and Interview.

01 / Eligibility

  • Education: a degree (graduation) in any discipline from a recognised university, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Government of India. The result must be declared and you must hold a valid mark-sheet or degree certificate when you register.
  • Age: minimum 20, maximum 30 years as on 01-07-2026 (born between 02-07-1996 and 01-07-2006, both dates inclusive).
  • Upper age relaxation: SC/ST 5 years, OBC (non-creamy layer) 3 years, persons with benchmark disabilities 10 years, ex-servicemen and commissioned officers with at least 5 years of service 5 years.
  • Nationality: Indian citizen, or the other categories listed in the notification (for example subjects of Nepal or Bhutan).

Application fee in the last notice: ₹850 for general and other categories, ₹175 for SC/ST/PwBD candidates (both including GST).

02 / Selection process

The Preliminary only shortlists candidates for the Main. The final score is made from the Main exam and the Interview in the ratio 80:20. The Interview carries 100 marks and the minimum qualifying mark is not less than 40% (35% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD).

You must pass each of the three tests by securing the minimum cut-off marks IBPS decides.

Wrong answers in the objective tests carry a penalty of 1/4 of the marks of the question. Unanswered questions carry no penalty.

04 / What the tests cover

The notification fixes the structure above, not a topic list. The detailed syllabus is issued in the information handout that IBPS releases with the call letters on ibps.in.

Questions students ask

Which graduates can apply for IBPS PO?

Graduates in any discipline from a recognised university. The result must be declared before the date given in the notification.

Is there an interview in IBPS PO?

Yes. After the Main there is a Personality Test and a Common Interview run by the participating banks. Interview marks count for 20% of the final score.

Is there negative marking?

Yes. One fourth (0.25) of the marks of a question is deducted for each wrong answer in the objective tests. Blank answers carry no penalty.

Is the Main exam only objective?

No. It has a 170-question objective part and a descriptive paper (essay and comprehension) of 25 marks.

Graduation in any discipline from any recognized university or institution.

Note: The candidate must possess valid Mark-sheet / Degree Certificate that he/ she is a graduate on the day he / she registers and indicate the percentage of marks obtained in Graduation while registering online.
